Happy Trails in Massachusetts

October 9th, 2007 · No Comments

Its back to the future for Massachusetts’ transportation grid. The State’s Department of Conservation and Recreation and numerous non-profit local groups are promoting an expansion of local rails to trails programs in order to create a mesh of interconnected bike and walking trails in Eastern Massachusetts. Long abandoned railroad tracks, with their long relatively flat and straight stretches, make for very good dedicated bike and walking trails and connect many of our communities along scenic routes. Will two wheels become more popular than four? Perhaps, especially if global warming melts the New England snow away along with the Arctic ice cap.
